Hi I think I am paying the wrong tax band as I live in a modern Wimpey 1970's end terraced 2 bed house no drive and a garage in a row of 6 round the back of the house, I park in a lay by down the road. I am in band C.There are houses on this estate who are 3 bed with drive, attached garages and some even with extensions so have 4 beds. All the houses on my row are 2 bed and all seem to be in same band as me. It does not seem fair that I should pay the same as them as they are also band C.Looking at the valuations going back the 3 bed houses were worth aprox 30K more than my house. My question is do I make a claim. Has anyone had experience of this and can advise as I do not want to make it worse for me. Thanks in anticipation. G x0

Hi
Just wanting some advice on what steps i should take. I live in a semi detached and our councill tax band is B, the adjoining house is band A, there is 1 other house in the street which is also in band A, all the others are B
There is no difference in the houses and i have also done the valuation checks which seem to suggest that all the properties in the street were valued well under 40k in 1991, we have lived here since 1990.
Just wondering who to contact regarding this and if i am entitled to a refund if it gets rebanded to A
Would really appreciate some advice, thanks0 -

Phoned my local VOA, they confirmed that 3 houses in my street are band a, said I will receive a letter within 2 months and they also mentioned that i would receive any overpayment, hoping thats a good sign0

1993 Welsh Band A was for dwellings which had an Apr 91 value of no more than £30K, 2005 Welsh Band B is for dwellings which had an Apr 2003 value between £44K and £65K.
Unless your home was worth less than £44K in Apr 2003, Band B would be correct. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Has anyone tried to apply for this in Scotland? My mother in law lives I. A terraced house and all her neighbours are paying less than hers. Her neighbour next door was only rebranded lower a few years back receiving a refund. House is exactly the same. Mother in law has appealed twice identifying all of the proof suggested in this original article and has been rejected saying it had to be submitted before 1993! Referring to Council Tax (Alterations of Lists and Appeals) (Scotland) Regulations 1993. Surely the fact her neighbours are different is wrong. Any advice would be helpful thanks.0
