New bank account
Debts06

Just need some advice please, been trying to sort my debts out over the last year by catching up on payments and trying to save abit at the same time. so had debts when I was married and we are getting divorced and we both just said sorting out our own debts was the best way we only have one together with was our joint account.
So our house is up for sale but not selling and we had a £2000 overdraft which she maxed out been getting charge ever since. Now this is where my bank seems to want to make it harder to sort things out then what they should be.
Now I've been able to save my first £1000 have 2 jobs and work 14hrs aday I have 3 debts with my bank which are now upto date but they keep taking money out of my account and paying it off our joint account £400 in total so far but I just can't afford for this to keep happening I've told them once the house is sold I will move onto the joint account and pay it off but there not having none of it.
So I'm now thinking of getting another account at another bank but this joint accounts been overdrawn for well over 6 months do you think I'd still be able to open one or is my credit file smashed to bits which is what I think any help and advice would be great.

You can apply for a basic account, anyone can get one as there are no credit facilities, ie no cheque book or overdraft. The Co-op is highly recommended by many people, also Barclays, NatWest and Nationwide. Make sure you apply for a "basic" account.0

Here's a list of banking groups. Not sure who underwrites the Comet card/finance but its best to find out and double check.
ETA: Had a quick look and it seems to be Santander0 -
I am like yourself, up to my eyeballs in debt, but have just managed to open a co-operative cashminder bank account over the telephone. I explainedthat due to a marriage breakup, and debts, my credit rating was pants probably. The advisor triedto get me to open a current account, but I just said I needed a basic bank account. An identity check was done, and I was accepted. It comes with a debit card and no overdraft facility, and can be used to pay wages into etc. If you do not live near a co-op bank you can pay money into your account at any post office, cash or cheques. Internet and telephone banking is also provided which is handy. Hope this is of help, and good luck:o0
