Quite a few on here complained about the length of time with Halifax - take a look thru the threads.

  • We went to a mortgage broker and got AIP with Halifax there and then. The application was then agreed the same day and survey arranged the next day. Mortgage offer received 2 days later. So from getting AIP to getting mortgage offer was 4 days.
  • I have the decision in principle already it was all done through a adviser as we are first time buyers and unsure exactly what we where doing so needed an extra help the only reason we are worrying is that we have a reserve on a house and really dont wanna lose it

How long is a piece of string ?

Every case is different as are everybodies circumstances.

Simple cases at low LTVs with a good credit history may need only a last wage slip. First time buyers, self employed, fair credit history, suspect property might need employers references, bank references, additional valuer information which all takes time. There is no one size fits all answer.
  • I put through an application on 30th sep had the valuation done on 4th oct but yestersay i rang & they havent even gone through our case yet it has just gone to underwriters but they are so busy wont get an offer till probably Mon or Tues now because apparently they are so busy :-(
