Problems Getting Loft Insulation as I'm a Council Tenant

Hi All,
I have just checked my loft insulation in my council house and found I have approx 80mm of loft insulation (much less than the 270mm recommended). I telephoned npower and warmfront and both advised me to contact my local council (Charnwood BC) for them to upgrade the insulation, however Charnwood BC are refusing to even come and look at it as they say they have run out of money.
Is there anything i can say or do or anyone i can contact to upgrade my insulation? The house is a very cold house and made worse by it being concrete-prefab construction. I receive housing and council tax benefit so any reduction in my heating costs would be really welcomed. Many thanks in advance.

You could apply for a warmfront grant assuming you qualify but dont expect it to be fitted until next year

You could do it yourself for £100 or less you can get rolls for sometimes £1 when its on offer these are subsided by energy companies

Afraid if they run out of money then you have to wait

    Warmfront wont do council properties.

Call the council again. They have an obligation to bring their properties up to standard.

Have you asked about the British Gas scheme mentioned on their pages? There is a telphone number there. I know its Private Sector Housing but the energy efficiency officer is the best one to speak to as they have borough wide targets:

you can call the council every day for years. itll make no difference until they decide they have money in the budget.

  • Email your councillor(s). Not sure about England, but in Scotland they're up for election next year and some have started being very helpful.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
