Gumtree scam work from home job ads

Beware these ads for work at home jobs which appear on Gumtree (note these are not the user submitted ads but from an ad network). Exactly the same scam ads were running on pricerunner and when I contacted them the ads were removed within hours. I contacted Gumtree at the same time (over a week ago and never received a reply and the ads are still running).

These ads lead to fake news sites like newsdaily7.com and newsdaily7.co.uk

  • not being funny, but surely nobody would fall for these ads would they? The old saying "if it seems too good to be true, it usually is" says it all. I work from home, and have come across many of these scams in the past. Surprised that anyone would fall for them.

People must reply to them or they wouldn't continue to advertise.

Exactly - display advertising like that is not cheap so some people must fall for them. I guess it works a bit like spam emails - most people will recognise it's a scam but the scammers only need a small percentage of people to fall for it in order to profit. My concern is that sites like Gumtree (owned by ebay) allow these scammers to profit by running their ads and do nothing about it when you complain.
