Mortgage Arrears

We have been in rented accom. for three years and haven't missed any payments. Prior to that we owned our own home but had trouble with the mortgage and were in arrears off and on over several years until we sold the house. If we tried to buy again sometime this year would our past record be visible to potential lenders? I can't see anything on our credit files (Experian) that shows we had mortgage arrears. Where is this information recorded / kept?

Assuming you included your previous address (where the mortgage was held) when you requested your credit report, it should include any information available about your previous mortgage.
Is there a record of your mortgage on your report at all? Most mortgage providers do share data on all customers, although if you took out the mortgage before 2000 the data may not be shared if they didn't get your permission when you took out the loan.
In general, arrears data stays on your credit report for three years, unless you close the account in which case the entire record is frozen and kept for six years.
