any hairdressers out there, please disaster!

tonight i used a chemical straightner but it hastotaly wrecked my hair- strand test turned out fine, but when i added it i had to wash it out early cos the ends were breaking off- half my hair came off in the shower, it stripped the coulour and is now severly dry.

i've left intensive conditioner on for hours, have washed it out and now added melted shea butter to leave on all night, but when i was smothering my hair in the butter, more and more kept snapping off. i can feel its a lot thinner. Also when i washed the conditioner out it was all frizzy and dry as a stick, it looks awful.

can anyone pkease offer any advice?
thanks in advance.

I'm not a hairdresser but have had some experience of my own of damaged hair. Sorry to say but I think you need to go and get some of the damaged hair cut off, no amount of conditioning will rescue your hair if it is as bad as you have described.
Hopefully someone with a hairdressing qualification can give you a miracle cure
  • thanks karen.
i suppose whats worrying me is that it still appears to be breaking off.
suppose i better have a look at some short hairstyles then..

Have you tried a protein mask?

Aphogee do a great one, its not easy to use but it works very well.

Other protein masks to maybe try are Joico K-PACK, Bumble and Bumble Creme de CoCo, and Kiehl's also have one but as far as getting your moneys worth and also the cheapest of the lot, go for Aphogee. Make sure you get the protein 2-step though as they do a few versions and the Protein version should help you out most.
  • thanks jennie. ill pop into sallys to see if i can get any of those.
i'll report back and let you know how i get on.

Another alternative is whisking up egg yolk with a couple of teaspoons of olive oil. A DIY protein treatment. One yolk for short hair, two for long hair. Good luck!
  • thanks cattkitt, i'll give that a try also.
i bought loads of stuff from sallys today including a cholestrol treatment and protein treatment, then some hair mud that was reccomended, so at the moment i've got the cholestrol one on (the girl says thats what ethnic people use after relaxing their hair to get rid of the brittleness) and have been giving blasts with the hairdryer to help it soak in.

just going to leave each one on for as long as possible, at least to try to save some of my hair before i go to the hairdressers.

    thanks for your help.x

If you want heat to aid the process, then have you considered using a shower cap to keep all the moisture in, and then topping that shower cap with a standard woolly hat? That will keep in the heat lost from the top of your head. Also less drying and damaging than a hair dryer.
