Hello
My GFs mum is in a real mess financially and its causing her a lot of problems. Heres a brief on her situation.
Big 4 bed house in very bad state of disrepair worth (80K max) due to the amount of work thats needed. Its very nearly unsafe to live in.
She has debts of around 20K and no possible way of paying them now that she has been signed of work due to ill health. She now gets an income from the state either DLA or other.
She says she can't go bankrupt as its to expensive and she has now burried her head in the sand and is ignoring final demands etc. A court official visited her today looking to remove goods for unpaid council tax. They didnt take anything as they saw that she had nothing and that the house was a death trap.
What can me and the GF do to help?

hi there
the best thing to do is to suggest she contacts one of the free debt charities, such as the national debtline, cccs or the cab (the first two she can deal with over the phone, the cab face to face). they will look at her circumstances and provide her options. i would do this asap then you can work out what to do about the council tax. if she's not going br then she needs to speak to the council and come to an agreement asap.
it's good she has you and your GF to look out for her0
