Capquest

I have a debt with Egg which is now being dealt with by Capquest. Months ago i did an SOA for them and they agreed, in writing, to accepting £30 per month from me until August 2008, at which time the amount would be reviewed. I've paid regularly and always in advance of the due date.

On occasion they have called (on the phone) and asked me to confirm things like my job title, address, phone number etc etc, and also to hassle me and tell me iI should be paying more. Every caller has been incredibly rude and pushy. I have told them every time that my circumstances haven't altered and that I have an agreement in writing. The last guy told me that regardless of the agreement they would contact me every couple of months to see if I could pay any more. I told him, believe me, to get you lot off my back, if I could, I would. I also asked last time that they STOP contacting me by phone as I found it stressful and their manners were appalling. The guy said "we can't do that, we're a telephone company, we have to call you". Funny, that, when I've letters from them at home.....

Anyway, these last few days they have been ringing me 3 or 4 times a day, and I@ve just been pressing "busy". I've had some voicemails, which don't say "hello, this is a message for ..... from Capquest, please call etc etc...", they just read out the phone number and say "when calling quote this reference number...."

So what do I do? Do I write reiterating that I've asked them to only contact me by mail? Or do I pick up next time and have a jolly old row about it all (have to confess I do like an argument!).

I hate them all, they're so RUDE!!

Have a look at the OFT guidelines on harrassment - on OFT Office of Fair Trading website (don't have the link at the moment). They appear to be acting in direct contravention of these guidelines.
You are perfectly entitled to request that all dealings be conducted by letter and their 'excuse' of being a telephone only company is just another of their bullying tactics.
Have a good look at all of the threads relating to Capquest, on this forum. They appear to adopt this approach to most of their 'clients'.

  • Report them, don't discuss things over the phone and if possible change your phone number. Never phone them alway write.

Thank you for that rog. I've had a good look through the site and I'm glad to see it's not just me (if you know what I mean!). And now I'll go look at those OFT guidelines too - I feel a strongly worded letter coming on!

And thankyou broken hearted. My feeling is that if it's something really urgent they need to talk to me about, then they'll leave an urgent message, do you think?
