Poundland looks to be opening very soon in Bloomfields in the old double unit previously occupied by Mothercare and Semi-Chem.
It may not be to everyones taste but I for one am happy - it's the only place I can get proper Shandy Bass!!

They are also opening a new shop in the Buttercrane Centre in Newry. They have taken over the old Mothercare Store (that just moved to a bigger store in the Business Park at the Five Way roundabout) and the one from the small furniture place beside it.
Seems they are really expanding in NI.0 -
We don't need downmarket shops like that, bring on quality!!!0

it's the chinese import bargains that are selling in a recession and the pound shops are a lucrative business. went in the odd time myself for bits and bobs and sometimes amazed at how good the quality actually is, some car wash consumables for example, 4 or 5 times cheaper than halfords budget stuff yet the same or better quality. If i had the money it would be my first franchise investment! a lot of people just can't afford more expensive priced shops these days and have turned into bargain hunters0

just to add.. any time i was in one of these stores the queue for the tills was to the back wall! !.. tells a hundred and one things.
look at ebay for example, the chinese import tack sells in high volume. only thing is though on ebay it's harder for the sellers as the buyers are a mouse click away from an unjust dissatisfied cold negative feedback for something that maybe cost the buyer under a pound!
before you all consider going and importing a lot of poundland stuff and selling it on the bay don't bother.. china already have it on and half the price you could ever sell it at. Already looked into it :P0 -

Have you ever been in Poundland??? As far as I am concerned they do "quality" products eg big name cleaning products (not sure if I'm allowed to name them on here so I won't lol), toiletries and baby goods. Those bits n bobs that I use frequently with kids like paper plates, cups etc as well as some food products - probably end of line or close to sell by date.
To be fair they do sell some cheap and nasty stuff but on the whole I like it!
Anything to save some pennies!!!0 -
Poundlands great, I've seen a rock star in the one in Newtownards, the same one Frank Lampard and Christine Bleakley were in, kids love it, the tat they can get for a £1 they also do some decent computer and wii bits and bobsNorn Iron Club Member #64

And until a few months ago I would have agreed with you! Now with a couple of kiddies and a tight budget it's amazing what you can get in Poundland. As I said, they are the only ones that do proper Shandy Bass and Vimto and we've picked up things we couldn't find cheaper anywhere else such as a booklight for reading to the wee one on these dark nights.
As for the queues, they'd almost put you off but it says something when the queue in PL alone can outstretch most other shops in the same shopping centre put together!0
