gift deposit for house after seperation

Hi All,

I just want to see if im entitled to receive half the deposit after me and my wifes separation. We both bought the house 4 years ago and the deposit was a gift from her father. i have now learnt he had sent a letter stateing it was a gift to her alone.

when we both bought the place it needed lots of work which was carried out for free by my self and my family who are builders. would this entitle me to half the deposit now or just half of the profit after.

I haven't seen it yet, I was told a week or so ago this is what had happened. its all new news to me???

I would suggest a letter alone is not enough in this instance.

Take professional advice and go for a straight 50/50 split.
