today im rather down, and frustrated. over a year ago i had to take over the cear of my disabled brother, witch at the time was fine and all tho i did have to give up my job it was only ment to be a tempory fix. he has finaly been given a placement with a home so i can go back to work. i have been on jobseekers for 16 weeks now i have honestly applyed for everything and anything. i dont get replyes to even say thanks but no thanks 90% of the time i had one job interview but failed it.
i have had my cv checked re checked re wrote and checked again. i know there are not that many jobs out there but i thought chirsymas temps would be something, still being ingored. last week i poped to my town center to ask in the stores that hadnet advertised for temps yet. im know at the game store becaues i play xbox and i used to take my brother there once or twice a fortnight. the manger was lovely said normaily they go threw the jobcenter but hand your cv in to me tomoro withc i did(that was on sat) and the mobile phone shop said coz i had worked in phones before he would defently get back to me. (also handded my cv at other shops but this sounded good) its thursday now and no one has called!. i dont know if i should go in and ask why to witch they will not say .....'umm coz we dont beilve cear is a real job u dole stealer' but thats what they will think. im not desprate for money or nothing i do ok on my JSA but im desprate to get in to work for me! i hate not working and i have applyed for so many places some 3 times!! i just dont know what to do now. the job center are not really helping eather i know there busy and what can they really do? can anyone think of anything i havent tryed? could sit and cry about this all day its getting me so down

Why do you think employers will say 'umm coz we dont beilve cear is a real job u dole stealer', you cant think like that, being a carer for someone must be hard but you also leanr new skills.
so what day did you hand you cv to the game and the phone shop0 -
OP, are you dyslexic? There are lots of spelling mistakes in your post and I wonder if there are mistakes in your application form too? Is there anyone who could help you with this?MSE aim: more thanks than posts :j0

Called a recession.
If you have a degree I would just teach English abroad. If your English is good.

All I would say is try not to second guess what everyone else is thinking - because, for the most part, especially when you are at lowish point, the likelihood is that you will be anticipating negativity and you may also unwittingly project that negativity yourself.
You can justify leaving your former work for a very valid reason - you didn't just leave on a whim, and you can emphasise that your brother now has a place in a home. An employer may be looking for reassurance that you wouldn't find yourself in the same situation again and be leaving them.
I only know what you've told us on here and without knowing what sort of work you are looking to go back ito, but you might wish to emphasise that you found being your brother's carer just as much a full time job or indeed more than a full time job. You learned about xyz / had to get to grips with planning abc, understanding any legislation or entitlements etc etc.
I think I would be thinking about all the things I learnt. What stretched me, what problems I overcame and emphasise that you have been using all your communication skills in dealing with who ever you dealt with. Being out of employment didn't mean you lost any of your abilities or your skills.
Also emphasise what you are looking forward to about going back to work. When you say things you mean and you're genuinely enthusiastic (without going over the top) that will transmit to employers.
Also is your CV written in your own words? Sometimes if someone else puts together a CV for you it doesn't transmit who you are as they may use their own words or hackneyed phrases that they think sounds good. Write it as if you're saying it and then get someone to go over it with you just to check for the errors that we all make when we write our own CVs.
Good Luck with everything.:A0 -
Hob - I just wanted to say good luck. I read your other threads with interest last year and I'm pleased to hear you/brother have finally been given the help you deserve. I'm just sorry you arent local to me as I could have arranged a job for you.:A:A:A:A:A:A0

I'd echo alot of what has already been said - especially the bit about your English. It may not seem to be important, but these days employers can pick and choose, and 16 weeks isn't that long to be looking for a job.
Other things - how have you explained your time as a carer? This is a bif deal. You did something amazingly hard and which requires skills. Brother or not, love isn't enough. It's tough work - have you sold this positively in terms of the hard work you must have put in?
You could do some voluntary work whilst you are out of work - it helps you gain skills, get a reference, and shows you won't sit around on the dole doing nothing. And/or get as many free courses as you can, while you can. Volunteer for anything going - you have nothing to loose!0 -

i have explaned my time as a carer and all the skills i have got from it ect. i know its hard hardest thing i ever did! but i just dont feel like empolyers see it that way. (maybe im guessing them but its how i am feeling)
DCFC79- handed my cv in on saterday so how long should i wait before i call/ pop in or would they then think im bugging them?
vaporate- not a chance i have beep english and tho he is in a home now im still the only person he knows outside of that home.
safesound- yeah my xmas thread!! aww its so sweet that u rember me. even now when i think of how suportive everyone was i get tears in my eyes. thanks for reminding me , i feel bad for having a moan now. things were way harder then.
mazinmouse- i dont feel i should have to say exactly why i left my last job, its way personal and compcated. i put due to family reasons i had to leave and then explaned that i was a carer shouldnt that be anuff?
i have worked in sales call centers and retail and there are jobs there well at least they are posted up but im not even getting a rejection email. (not even the robot one)0 -
I think you should pop into the stores and ask them if they are taking your CV any further, being persistent is showing you have the drive to get a job.0
