Once application for a remortgage is submitted

How long are various banks currently taking to confirm the decision of the underwriter? Keen to hear recent experiences of others. I applied two days ago and have been informed it could be up to three weeks!

Which lender have you applied to? Knowing the experiences of people with other lenders won't be relevant to you.
  • Thank you for such a prompt response. I applied with the Post Office and I am especially interested about their turnaround but keen to hear about others also just in case I am declined (fingers crossed that this will not be the case).

Much depends on your personal circumstances, and whether the application is passed for review by an underwriter.

    Hi

I remortgaged my house in july with Northern rock as my fixed rate deal had ended and I wanted to be on another fixed rate just in case, I spent an hour on the phone and then they said they would let me know the decision the next day, however the gentleman on the phone let slip that we had scored highly on the internal rating system so basically letting us know there and then.

Do you already have a mortgage with the post office or are you changing providers?

    Hope that helps

    Hi

It may take a bit longer than my one day because I already had a relationship with the provider, If you have not heard from them in a fortnight give them a ring it cannot do any harm and may push them to get it done a bit quicker.

From other times I have remortgaged I think this sounds about right certainly at least a week, they have to process application probably pass it 5 million depts before it ges to right one, you know what these companies are like!:)

The Post Office - anything from 2 weeks to 4 months. Depends on many variables to include which staff member is allocated your case - as with all Humans some are more organised than others.
