Am I eligible for a student loan

I am currently working full-time (37 hour week) but also studying part time towards a professional qualification (combination of distance learning and block release visits to a university). I'm 24 (finished standard degree about 2 years ago)

Am I eligible for one of these low interest rate student loans? My salary barely covers my rent and bills, so it would be usefull. I am not the sort of person to get into debt, so I wouldn't consider any of these rip-off commercial loans.

Thanks for any advice.

  • Try asking the Student Loans Company (https://www.slc.co.uk) or Student Finance Direct (https://www.studentsupportdirect.co.uk), guess they're best qualified to give you an answer

Don't think it looks good, unless you're on a teacher training course (Are you?)

Quote from: Dept for Education and Skills, Student Support

    "End to part time loans
The loan scheme for part time students has been discontinued. It has been replaced with the non repayable course grant (see 2 above)."

The best thing to do is read all the info as suggested above, and contact your Local Education Authority of Education & Library Board (NI)

    Good Luck!

    Thanks all.

I won't bother then. I was going to put half of it in a high interest savings account anway.
  • Think you can still get something as a mature student, as long as you are doing over so many hours a week (can't remember if it is 16 or 20 hours), but maybe you can ask your place of study if they will do a letter stating this, I got somewhere to do this did say i couldn't afford to carry on and needed the loan.

    Worth a try?
