Company Car or Car Allowance

Wish I'd never joined the thread now! Well the tone of your post is really bad - not what I'd expect from a Professional. I said upfront I wasn't having a pop at you but you've taken offence in every reply - not good.
So you were talking about fuel cards combined with company cars and I was talking about fuel cards and car allowances - I think it was clear several posts ago that I was talking about car allowances so if anything, you made a strong assumption in correcting me. I take it that now you know what I was referring to, that my figures and values are actually correct? (when taken in the right context).
I don't think I know it all about tax but I know how the system that relates to me works and have spent a lot of time working through the pros and cons of whether or not to take a car allowance. No I'm not holier than thou, but I do think you'r being a bit over zealous with the exclamation marks and word-spitting.
You don't need to answer this, but how does an accountant get into debt in the first place anyway?
** As ever, none of what you read on here is advice. I'm no financial expert and we are all virtual. Even those who might be financial experts are virtual. Everything read on these boards should be taken as just another source of information, combined in your brain and decided upon based on your own situation. **You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0 -

I don't think it was clear at all as we were discussing about company carsLongTermLurker wrote: »I take it that now you know what I was referring to, that my figures and values are actually correct? (when taken in the right context).
If the company is generous enough to pay for your private fuel yes they are as you rightly said it is essentially 59% [you forgot the fact that you are more than likely to pay 1% NIC on it] subsidisedLongTermLurker wrote: »You don't need to answer this, but how does an accountant get into debt in the first place anyway?
Simple, compulsive gambling when he was younger. Not something I am proud of but I am massively proud of the fact that I recovered and work in the community mentoring kids to ensure they don't go down the path that I did£365 in 365 days challenge: £730 / £1500 -

I admire your honesty, and admire the fact that you're helping others to avoid the same problems. Sorry, I didn't want to get personal, but your rebukes were starting to get painful. I think we are now at least sort of in agreement, so we'll leave it at that. You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...:cool:0
