I look for one that can get me a good deal but more importantly will save me time.

I have had two recently - both buy to let.
One was very proactive, filled in all the forms, dealt with the lender, chased things up, called back when he said he would - all over in a few weeks. Downside - charges.

The other got a better deal but got my aims wrong. After advising on an offer it then went to someone else in there company. It then went to the lender who wanted all the information again. I was then in the situation that I was chasing both the broker and the lender to find what was happening (some of the info had to come from the broker). Probably been a couple of months and still not complete.
For me the better mortgage deal and low charges are not worth the extra time and effort (I did explain this to the broker but as usual this sort of thing was ignored).
  • Why didnt you use the same broker for both transactions?

Good question - I thought I'd try a whole of market broker that kept getting recommended here and the previous broker had left his company (but was still in business).
  • right - were you happy with the whole of market broker who kept getting recommended on here? (no it is not me, everyone!)

I read it the other way ... was not happy with the WoM often recommended here
( either way it was not me either !! , sounds more like the larger outfit often mentioned )

Sounds like the ones. I'm not saying they were bad and can't fault the products - just didn't suit my priorities.

That says something, since you are hardly here lately!;)

    2 reasons for that.

    1) Too busy working

    2) Tired of the whole 'this site is not for brokers but for consumers' nonsense. Why should I bother devoting my free time to something that, because of the job I do, refuses to accept that I am a consumer, just like every other professional tradesperson who posts on this site in their area of expertise, and others. Pathetic.
  • I think I might be put off by a monobrow or drooling. BO could cause problems too.:rotfl:

I can sympathise with your sentiments entirely, hence the reason I've limited the amount of time I spend here. A consumer is anyone or anything that requires a product or service irrespective of their occupation.
