post office mortgages

hi martin i am a first time buyer and me and my partner are looking at getting a mortgage with the post office. i was wondering how secure will we be if the company went bankrupt? are they regulated by the F.S.A or anyone or do they have any sort of insurance so we do not loose everything we have invested into our potential new home? thanks

All residential mortgage lenders are regulated by the FSA.

If you get a mortgage you will have their money, not the other way around.

If they were to go bust (very unlikely) you would continue to pay the mortgage as usual and have no issues.

It's Bank of Ireland actually doing the mortgages. We've just had ours approved through them as FTBs and they've been fantastic in dealing with queries, panics, stresses and what-not, calling us to update us on the progress of things and generally being on hand when we've needed them.

Just to sort out some stuff from the survey and I can finally go all Llewellyn-Bowen (but without the MDF overload) on a place of me own!

The post office are great! Very efficient and helpful - I would defo recommend them! :-) x
  • Just to add that I also had a great experience with Post Office mortgages (Bank of Ireland) and would recommend.
  • Hey,

These are some good reviews of mortgages through the Post Office. I've been looking at a 5 year fix with them and it's good to see this feedback.

Only thing to save for is their fees!! £995 arrangement fee!!
Wonder if I can haggle with them *grin*
