When my husband and I bought the home we live in, he took out the mortgage in his sole name, as my credit was not as good as his and he got a better deal. What I didn't think about that at the time was what happens if we split up? We only married 4 years ago, but the marriage is waning due to his emotional abuse toward me and I want to break free but fear losing everything if I do. Doing a search on the property reveals that it is registered just in his name, just like the mortgage. We both put money into the property and both work, so pay the mortgage between us, although my money goes into his bank account to cover the direct debit he pays to the mortgage company.
We are both UK residents, so come under UK law. Can any solicitor out there advise me please???
Thanks

To assist any knowledgeable person in answering your question (which I am not, I'm afraid), could you additionally provide estimates of the current value of the house and the outstanding mortgage balance. This could be important, especially if you have close to or negative equity.0
