Move home and visit your boyfriend regularly.......Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0

Hey, just to give you some confidence, I am a recent graduate and had been unemployed for like 3 months...but all of a sudden I had 2 offers this week
All about getting as many interviews as possible and learning in each one, and knowing exactly what to say, what questions to ask, and inparticular closing the interviers down at the end! Plenty of jobs out there if you look hard enough and eventually one will crop up, I literally applied for 20 a day! lolTarget- clear £1000 student overdraft by Jan 11

Thanks. I really hope something does come up, I haven't even got as far as an interview yet!0

It always does. Dont neccarily opt for something that is specific to your degree. I did that initally, but studied journalism and the current field doesnt isnt taking anybody on. So I applied for a sales position in travel & tourism, came accross well in the interview and got it
guardian jobs, totaljobs, jobsite and reed are the ones I found most useful- some of the graduate specific sites are very limited such as graduate-jobs.com. Try temping as well in your area, agencies are always looking for people to do the odd job here and there like admin, data entry, bar/restuarant work etc. Good luck!

pennylessstudent wrote: »Since graduating in July I've been unemployed and moved back home to live with parents and obviously saving money from not paying rent/bills etc. I started claimed job seekers allowance which I was entitled to but have since moved house. I now live with my boyfriend who has also graduated this year and only just started working but apparently this means I'm not entitled to any benefits. I'm responsible for my share of the bills, rent, council tax etc etc but the Job Centre won't give me a single penny in support as they reckon my partner should be able to afford to keep me.
I don't understand why the situation is that my parents don't support me when I was living at home but now that I have my own financial responsibilities I'm not entitled to anything. My boyfriend has literally only had his job for 3 days and won't get paid till the end of November so he definately can't afford to look after both of us. I'm desperately seeking a job but seriously struggling with the financial aspects of living away from home...I thought that Job Centre was there to help people financially while they look for a job!
Is this right? Is there anything else I can claim while I'm unemployed?
Working Tax Credit-if he works 30 hrs pw?
Possibly he can claim LHA/CTB from the council as well, based on his earnings0 -
Because my boyfriend isn't over 25 and we don't have kids then we're not entitle to working tax credits unfortunately. And regards CTB it's being assessed at the mo but could take 8-10 weeks! By which time I really should have managed to find a job anyway so we won't need the benefit.0

You are assessed as a couple which means you are ineligible for means tested benefits. As you haven't paid National Insurance over the last 2/3 years you can't claim contribution based benefits (unless you have a disability from being young).
As you are both fit and healthy you can't claim disability benefits.
Sorry, you've fallen through the gap. You could claim a crisis loan or ask for help from parents to tide you over until he gets paid. The Cabbage
