Hello everyone! I am fairly new to this so hope I am using the correct method of asking a question.
I am planning on cooking bockwurst and saurekraut tonight for the first time, as we had some on holiday and enjoyed it.
I have bought a packet of bockwurst at Lidl and have now realised there are no cooking instructions on it!
My instinct is to just boil it like a large hotdog? Does anybody know?
Thank you in advance!
Marion

Hi there! I actually fry the sausages until they are brown with a touch of olive oil (Sadly, I just want it to be as low in fat as possible, but my friend does it with a bit more oil in it.... Sometimes, I score one side of the sausage so that i can see if the inside has actually cooked through. Make sure though that you don't cook them from frozen. I haven't tried grilling them though...And I usually have them with salad leaves with feta cheese...(It's making me hungry now...) Enjoy them!!! they're really yummy!!!Sealed Pot Challenge 2012 #1502:)

If its those thin ones that looks like hotdogs - then you boil them - if its the grey thick ones you need to grill till brown
But really you need Hella Curry bockwurst sauce to go with it ("the" sauce in germany!!!)0 -
Thanks guys :T - I took a chance and boiled them as I am trying to not fry anything. They turned out ok, however I should have pierced them first as they split down one side! I put them on the plate with the saurkraut and called it "Butterfly Brockwurst"

I got some from Aldi last week & grilled them - lovely, the kids gobbled them up. Oh & I did notice the meat content of them was much higher than our conventional sausages, so can;t be bad !0

You have to simmer them very, very gently to prevent them splitting.
BTW on the way home from Italy our coach stopped at some motorway services in Germany and we were able to get Currywurst and chips for lunch - bliss!0 -
I dont know if it counts also for pre-cooked meats or processed meats, but the butchers always recommend you dont peirce your sausages, as the skin keeps in a lot of the flavour. Apparently you lose a lot by piercing or scoring it.0

Bockwurst - you boil.
Bratwurst - you fry.
