Thanks Lilacpixie - hadnt really set a target yet - maybe I should!! I would love to clear it in 5 years before ds 1 decides to leave school and maybe go to uni. I was really just thinking of making the maximium over payments I can while we are able to - if we kept on at that we would be clear in 5 years what an acheivement that would be!! The uncertainty at this moment doesnt help though so hard to focus on long term aims really, as not sure what the next announcements the government will make are. I work in local government and so does hubby ( all be it on a casual app), so the job security for myself at the moment is a big thing which I suppose is alol the more reason to be mortgage free!! On a plus note took the lights back this morning and got full refund!!

  • Made a small overpayment this morning of £52 - not much but better than nothing! Brings Octobers overpapyment now to £325 . DH work had been quiet, but had quite a few shifts last week and this week so hope to be able to bring it up to £499 by the end of the month. Although he does not have any work for the next few weeks but hope that will change over the next few days.

  • AFter reading other diarys - Thanks Lilacpixie - have decided to get back into Ebay and Gumtree. I have a lot of things lying around that have been meaning to put on for a while so now is the time to start. Was thinking of trying most of it on Gumtree first as less hassle I suppose, and no listing fees, then moving it to Ebay if it doesnt go ( well if it is post-able that is). It is amazing how the clutter builds up. I go through stages of ebaying and have done well with it in the past , particularly with kids clothes ( gap/next etc) and elc toys, playmobil and such like. A few years ago I done a lot in the lead up to Christmas and it did more or less pay for Xmas, so that would be the plan. This will let me keep paying DH wages into mortgage overpayments.

    Will keep you posted!!

  • Well managed to make another overpayment before the end of the month to bring this months overpayments up to £499 - managed this without using any savings this month which is great. Hubby managed to pick up a few shifts and has went from none this week to 3, so every little helps!! I have even scheduled a payment for Monday for £17 as I have now made the maximum this month and had a wee drop left over from his wages. I have went from mortgage being paid 5 months early now to 6 - Hooray!!! I am sure as the weeks go on and the overpayments mount up the months will come down quicker - well I hope any way.

Last post I said I was going to start ebaying - not started yet , I really need to get motivated , I have a few things earmarked so I suppose that is a start. It has been a hectic few weeks with the kids at school and Halloween discos etc. I have also made a good start on my Xmas shopping and list is all updated so I know where I am with it. I am usually organised every year anyway - start my shopping in the Boots sale in January - so get all neices and nephews , teachers etc gift sets and stocking fillers for the kids. I want to have it all finished by end of November as things get hectic in December with the kids social lifes again ( not mine though...)

I am now trying to convert others to making extra payments, but they look at me as if ' why would you want to do that?' Think I am becoming a MFW bore!!

Classic example of MFW-itis. Unfortunatly once infected there is no cure you just need to manage your symptoms :)

And why do you think i have been awake since 5:50. Cheeky OP before the kids got up demanding milk, toast, cereal and fruit. I swear you would think I starved then the way they behave in the morning about brekkie.

I have zero compassion or bedside manner to be a medical Dr, tried it, didn't like it, switched from medicine to accountancy and i'm happy :):p

I love the quiet time in the morning before anyone else gets up - gives me a chance to keep up with forums / banking etc, once every one is up it is just mad till they are all asleep again!! I couldn't be doctor either and by the state my finances used to be in definatley not an accountant!

Just need to stick to my MFW - itis

  • Yeah - Made another payment this morning of £100 and have now edited my signature. Still 6 months knocked off, but I am sure as the payments come rolling in the months will go down way quicker - although 3 months ago still had full term to go so certainly moving in the right direction!!

It is a miserable day and looks like a weekend for the house so save spending any money!! - and really need to get sorted for gumtree and ebay!!

Just found your diary. I could read other people's diaries for days!
Not sure it's always productive but does renew my enthusiasm!
Good luck with your OPs looking good so far.
