Laptop won't charge? Help!

I have been given a Medion model#2310 notebook but it
won't charge or start on the mains adapter. The battery
charge indicator was lighting up intermittently but now
it won't light at all.

From searching the web it sounds like it's the power jack
that is probably at fault, does that sound right? And if so
is it an expensive thing to have repaired?

Will the laptop boot without the battery in i.e. just on
the mains adapter?

I don't know much about laptops so any help
is appreciated.

Yeah, the laptop will boot without the battery in it, but if it's the power jack it's not going to connect will it? I think you should check the mains adapter first, and then try and get it repaired if it is the power jack :)

I have just taken the battery out and connected with the
mains adapter and it is trying to boot, I can see the hard
drive light blinking and hear the drive spinning up but it
    still won't boot.

Small point to note is that the wireless light is blinking on
    and off also.

    Any idea's?

Yes I have seen that, it was working fine a couple of
days ago, and now it seems to be in a continous
    reboot.

Oh, and the screen is just black.

I have it connected to a crt monitor now and can see
a blue flash as it is trying to boot but it seems to be stuck in
    a boot cycle.

    Anybody any idea's?

No, it looks like it is stuck in a boot loop, the harddrive light
blinks a couple of times and then goes out and I can hear
the drive trying to start. It seems odd that the wireless
indicator lights and then goes out in sync with the drive
    trying to start.

Keep your finger on whatever key is for the bios, is it F12?

Ok, so I just made a short video of what is happening when I
start the laptop. In the video you will see 3 lights.

The first light from the left is the wireless indicator, the second
light from the left is the mains power light and the light on the
far right is the harddrive access light.

    Hope this helps
