How to Calculate Part-Time Holiday Pay???

Hi
I have been working in a part-time job for 8 weeks, I work 16 hours a week over 3 days (2 days at 5 hours and 1 day at 6 hours).
My contract states that my holiday entitlement is 21 days per annum pro-rata plus paid leave for all public and statutory holidays.
This is the first part-time job I've ever had so am unsure how to calculate my holiday entitlement, is it calculated using days or hours?
Just wanted to check before I ask my employer.
Thanks

I work it our like this for 16 hours per week. 16 divided by 5 = 3.2.
3.2 x 21 days = 67.2 hours holiday per year. Hope this helps:)0 -
What do people at your place work for full time hours? If its 35 I would do this:
21 days / 35 X16 = 9.6 days (or 72hrs)0 -

You've forgotten to include the extra paod bank holidays.
16hrs a week, 5.6 weeks paid holiday.
16x5.6= annual entitlement in hours.
Multiply it by hourly rate for amount.0 -

Ok sorry for bank holiday i assumed the workplace just shuts so no choice in taking them when you want.
If not it would be 16 divided by 5 = 3.2 x 29 days holiday
= 29 x 3.2 = 92.8 hours annual leave per year0 -

I was thinking the same except I have 21 days plus bank holidays (8 days) = 29 days = 5.8 weeks, therefore, 16hrs x 5.8 = 92.8hrs annual leave.
I'll see what they say, I'm sure it can't be calculated any other way as I don't work full days.
Thank Again

My post crossed with yours - that's the figure I came up with so hopefully it's the right one.
Thanks Again!0 -

I am positive that is correct. Then if you want a day of and its usually a 5 hour working day you can just deduct 5 hours. much much easier in hours.0 -

Hi, just re-read your post about the bank holidays - my employer shuts on bank holidays and I would never work them so does this mean that the holiday figure to be used in the calculcation is 21 rather than 29 (including bank holidays)?0 -

That contractual statement could be an issue depending on how it is implimented.
If that is what it says then you should be paid for ALL bank holidays(what rate is an issue) or are they trying to say paid only those holidays you would normaly work
Prorata for the other 21days will depend on how much you work compared to a full timer and how they decide to treat the bank holidays in the equations as work time for the full timers if they do pay them all.
The problem is that holiday calculations are not always that easy once you deviate from statutory entitlement especialy with badly drafted policies that are not clear.0
