great idea! I try and keep well stocked up in the pantry and bulk buy tins etc when on special offer. Just filled me boots with baked beans from Lidl as was 1 quid for 4 tins of branston which is the cheapest I've seen for ages. December is usually a good time to stock up due to special offers, have you tried the supermarket cards which give a good return when shopping at xmas?Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000
Save £12k in 2013 no.34 £11,800/£12,000

used to do the cards always had good intentions but am trying to get the things on special at the moment and in the run up to christmas, so i have about 9 weeks to grab the bargains rather than the couple of weeks in january when i would use the card so hopefully will work out cheaper in the long runskintbint x

What a fab idea
Our holidays are usually self-catering, so I tend to do a similar thing in the run up to the holiday - we are actually going away for Christmas this year, so the stash in the holiday box under the bed already includes cranberry sauce, teabags, wine, cava, tortilla wraps, and various toiletries.

I started my January box a couple of weeks ago and have quite a few staples in it, two tins soup (from Tesco buy 6 Heinz for £3), bag of Sugar, Dolmio sauce, pk of pasta, 4 pack of toilet roll, 2 tins beans, bottle bleach, basically anything that is on BOGOF, or 3 for 2. I have also been buying the stamps in Tesco for the savings cards, even when I dont have any pound coins in my purse I ask for three pounds cashback when paying by switch. The savings cards will be used for December shopping and the stash will be used for January.
Something I am learning on a regular basis now I am trying to be MSE is orgnisation is the key!
Good luck,Every days a School day!0 -
we've started bulk buying bargains when we see them and plan to stockpile them in the spare room, but it seems a fab idea for us to make sure we have stocks left for during the summer as we have 2 months without money as we are poor students:eek::love: married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090

Brilliant idea - that december pay cheque always has to stretch waaaay further especially as we get paid a week earlier than normal, so going to check out the stores over the weekend and start building mine up.At least the fish fingers are still frozen, that's what I keep telling myself (Truly Madly Deeply)0

usually we have a store cupboard/freezer filled all year with essential , usually the value range or if anythings on offer, thus we only need to buy fresh stuff on boxing day etc like bread, milk some salad items0

That doesn't mean you have to start spending it a week earlier.
Why not just make the previous months wages last the whole month and start spend the December wages on the day you would normally get paid?0 -
I must be missing something. I stock up if something is on a silly offer and is something I use(ie not for the sake of it) although this tends to be the odd tin of tuna or laundry items as cereal is a rip off so we have porridge or similar, most of the promotions are for junk food that have a shelf life, cleaning things are not needed as stardrops, vinegar etc work better. I can see the point of stocking an extra item of each, in case of snow though. Why not just have more money come January as you spend less now?
Like I said, I am probably missing something0
