When will my bankruptcy disappear from credit file?

Hi,

I was declared bankrupt in Mar 09 and discharged Mar 10. I know that there is little chance of getting credit until it comes off my credit file, which I understand is 6 years. Is this 6 years from the date of bankruptcy or from the date of discharge?

Also, I have noticed people mentioning going through their credit file and 'clearing' it after discharge - what does this mean?
