Money saving idea for 2012 brides who are flexible on dates.

We've managed to save £900 booking our venue for 2012 & I just wanted to share how we did it in case it works for anyone else!

2012 is the one year that will have 2 bank holidays in a row due to the Queen's jubilee celebrations. We were originally considering booking a Sunday at our venue as it was cheaper than a Saturday, but deliberately tying it in with a bank holiday so the majority of guests would be able to drink without having to go into work the next day.

When we noticed the double bank holiday though we checked the venue price list to check if they charged extra for bank holidays. They didn't :D We then checked with the owners themselves. They definitely didn't :D:D The end result being we've booked our dream venue for far cheaper than a weekend, with (hopefully) not many people having to book time off work.

Obviously this won't work for everybody, not everyone wants to get married on a Monday in June, and a lot of venues will charge extra on bank holidays. I just wanted to pass the information on in case anyone else is lucky enough to find somewhere that doesn't!

Hiya, we're getting married on 4th June 2012, as i also knew about the jubilee weekend :j and hoped to get it cheaper being a monday! It hasn't made a difference in our costs as our venue just has a peak and off peak price, it didn't make a difference to us as we wanted that venue. However If anyone else is thinking of this , just be warned that most venues say in their small print that they have the right to amend the price at any time, contract signed or not!! I know the three venues we shortlisted all had this in the terms. So if you are trying to get monday prices, please just check the small print! Most large companies will have some clause so they don't lose out finanicially. If you do get it a bit cheaper, then brilliant!! :D

Is there a June 2012 brides thread kicking about yet? If not perhaps we should start one!

When we first started talking about that date my OH was like 'do you think there will be a lot going on for the Queen that weekend though?' and I just replied 'probably, but I very much doubt she'd be able to make it anyway...' :p

2012 is a long way off ladies, plenty of time for the old dear to snuff it! (I don't think it's treason to suggest that she's old right?!)

Haha, i'm on the ball with that one... i've emailed the department of culture, media and sport, those responsible for organising the celebrations and asked that very question... (i did expect a knock on the door, and to be dragged of to the gallows!! :rotfl:) They said although the planning is in the early stages, the Privy Council Office would take a view from Buckingham Palace and the King’s Private Secretary’ should anything happen to HRH. However as local councils are changing half terms etc, the general answer was it would probably stay as is and be a celebratory weekend. So we thought sod it and went with it!! :D

Yes, the Monday 4th & Tuesday 5th are down as bank holidays, so we get a four day holiday. There will not be a late may holiday, hence the half terms being pushed back :)

Thanks! Hope you're lucky like us & they don't charge extra on bank holidays. I've had a few people tell me it's a shame to let your date be dictated by price, but at the end of the day if it's going to give you a thousand pound more to spend on extra things to make your day special why on earth not?
