Join David Lloyd Health Club

Hi
What are people's experiences of the David Lloyd or the Total Fitness health club? I am considering joining, but wondered what the prices may be, i sent an email to my local David Lloyd club but no reply as yet (poor customer service impression). Anyways i would probably have to pop in to get an answer, but wondered if anyone had got a decent deal from them? I dont expect it to be cheap (these somewhat fancy places i dont think do cheap!) but if its competitively priced, its probaby worth it

Dont fancy using the works affiliated gym membership, as this is right on my doorstep, and could use it at weekends etc. A possible bargaining tool is if i can persuade someone to join with me but will have to see.

Thanks in advance

  • Me and my boyfriend joined David Lloyd at the beginning of January. We got let off the joining free because the boy is a copper, so there is room to haggle. Monthly is £118.50 for the two of us, but we did have to prove that we were living at the same address.

Yes, its expensive, but I think worth the money for us. They offer free sessions with a personal trainer every (I think) six months, and for me (who hates gyms with a passion and had a very bad experience with fitness first a few years ago) this was great. The instructor took me through the basics and made me feel very comfortable. For the boy, who is very fit and active, they came up with new excercises which seem to be working very well for him. Its generally a nice atmosphere, even at peak times it doesn't seem too busy. And there is an outside pool, which will be wonderful in the summer, especially considering we live in a flat with no garden.

The only downside so far is some of the other members, who can be quite rude and stuck up sometimes.

So, in summary, its expensive, but if this is a priority for your cash, they do seem to be worth the money.
  • Thanks for the reply...

Got in touch with Total Fitness (not sure if its the same as Fitness First) and they are insisting that i pop down so they can give me an accurate quote on the price i am likely to pay. I just think they want to dazzzle me with the facilities which i stated that i assumes were v.good but she insisted i come and visit, eventually giving a range of £42.50-£74.50. Pretty sure that this is a single and not joint membership, she also said there is a special offer of a 50% discount on the £100 joining fee, but think this may be waived, as she became quite fuffled when talking about this. So will visit soon and see what they say.

I know someone who is paying £60pm at David Lloyds, so hopefully they would be able to offer a decent deal on a joint deal. Need to sort out a visit here as well.

Definitely check it out - both places - and see what you get for your money. My last disastrous gym membership was at a place (I was very naive) with the tiniest swimming pool, which felt "full" with 3 people in it. The gym staff were all attentive at first................. and after a couple of months weren't, even though I was quite a familiar face there. I suppose it just depends how to play it and if you've got two gyms in your area, they'll be trying to get your business. The one that I went to was the only one near me.
