Refund of upfront mortage fees - HSBC
Misty-fied
A fortnight ago I received a formal mortgage offer from HSBC, which I signed and accepted. Three days ago they informed me that they had withdrawn the offer.
I told HSBC from the outset that my purchase was a new-build on a Discount Purchase Scheme run by Fulham and Hammersmith Council for first-time buyers, and I gave them full details of the scheme. It seems they did not get round to studying the small print until after they had made me the formal offer; they didn't like the 'selling on' restrictions, hence their change of mind.
There was no apology or any suggestion that they should refund my upfront fees. Worse still, I can't get through to the HSBC manager who dealt with my application - he doesn't answer my emails or phone messages - and the branch staff tell me he is the only person I can talk to! Do you think it's reasonable for me to ask for my upfront fees back? I can't afford to apply for a different mortgage without them!
