Hello All - I'm New

Hello everyone,
Just thought I would introduce myself. I have been visiting the site for about a year but have never posted before.
I'm so glad this MFW forum is here as I am obsessed with the idea of becoming mortgage free and it drives my other half mad. So far I have managed to knock 9 years off the term by changing to an offset (11 yrs to go)and thanks to this forum i now have a mortgage pig (actually it is a pringle can but i am looking for a pig!) and in the space of a couple of weeks have put over twenty pounds in it all in coppers. I banked these on monday to offset the mortgage (every little helps!).
Anyway that's all I have to say right now but I hope to contribute some good ideas soon!!

Next stop: house repairs, holiday fund, replace our very old cars, more financial security/early retirement savings.🤞

    welcome specsappeal

I go through phases of being mortgage obsessed...then when I'm tempted to start spending everyone on here keeps me on track.

Hope the pringle tin is filling up nicely...oh dear, just thinking about pringles is making me hungry!
    weaving through the chaos...
  • Hi all,
Thanks for such a warm welcome!! Today I decided to use another pringle can for silver coins so my obsession continues!!
I know I could probably cut down on my outgoings a bit more but sometimes I need to splash out a bit (don't we all!). I have however changed all my lightbulbs to energy efficent ones and have changed my washing machine to a triple A rated one. Today I also had an A rated condensing boiler and new 'self insulated' hot water tank fitted so hopefully the savings i make there will go towards the mortgage. I am hoping to get my mortgage paid off within 7 years if possible (i will turn 40 then) as thats when we plan to sell up and downsize to a smaller property which we will hopefully buy outright. I am lucky really as I bought my house from the council for an absolute bargain. Still quite a way to go, but each saving i make gives me a warm feeling inside!!

I agree how obseessive it becomes. We have gone from a 20 year term to 13 years left in 3 years.

I am now trying to cut it down to 6 by chucking all the savings at it and upping the payment each month right up.

Welcome specsappeal, and good luck with your mortgage free goal!!!!
  • hi everyone another one here who is desperate to be mortgage free, but after looking at my finances i'm struggling to break even each month!

it looks like i'm going to have to rent out a bedroom once ive done all my modernising work on my flat. either that or rent the whole place and find myself a cheap bedsit. the final option is get a part time job and use all that money for overpayments.

i'm 26 now and my mortgage is just over 100,000 which is about 600 a month. i have 23.5 years remaining and i want to set a target of paying it by the time i'm 35 or probably more realisticly 40.

its good to know there are other people here with the same aim. everyone seems to have an other half, are there any other single mortgage free wannabees?
