The plating on rings is microns thick so I really don't think it should be an issue to worry about. I don't think it should affect the design on the ring, as there are lots ofwedding/ white gold rings commercially available (just look in any high street jewellery) with engraving and patterns these days.
Also the need for replating is only every few years - some people find their rings wear quicker than others, not just because of their daily routine but also the acidity of their skin.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
