Mushrooms - suggestions for bloke.

:hello: everyone!
The OS seed that has been planted within me is growing.
This morning, whilst at a motorway service station stretching my legs, I saw a mushroom. And then another one. And then another. :j "Magic!" I thought.
Long story short, I have about 1lb of mushrooms. It'll be a bit less once I've cleaned them up etc. but now I need ideas.
So, what could I make for tea tonight, or (and this might be trickier) something for my sandwiches tomorrow? Left to my own devices, I'd use as many as I could get into an omelette, and probably waste the rest. As I bothered to pick them, I'd like to get the most out of them. :money:
After the chicken and leek pie, I'm starting to get a bit more confidence (and a bit more belief in what I can do), so although I will need bloke-style instructions, I'll probably cope a bit better. Thanks to you lot, I actually have some basic ingredients knocking about too.
I haven't got time for a full-on photo-thread-extravaganza tonight, unfortunately.
So...over to you!
N.B. I have sufficient knowledge of mushrooms to know I've got the common field mushroom, agaricus campestris or whatever it's called. There were others about, some of which looked distinctly edible (one in particular I'd have banked on) but as I couldn't guarantee ID, I left well alone. Off to have a google to see if I can find them.

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Garlic mushrooms as an accompaniment to something (leftover chicken and leek pie):dance:There's a real buzz about the neighbourhood :dance:0 -
Risotto?
My fave (though more of a light lunch) is mushrooms on toast. fry garlic, add mushrooms, parsley, touch of cream or a cornflour white sauce & seasoning. Served on a thick slice of hot buttered toast. mmmmm0 -
I noticed some mushrooms in our local park. Is it mushroom season? How would I identify them?
I did once get a strange ring of mushrooms on my lawn which I identified as edible (but this was only because of the distinctive ring they formed and not becasue I was any good at matching pictures up with the real thing).
I'd love to go pick some, I love mushrooms.0 -
Yum mushrooms!
I had a recipe where you fried sliced mushrooms in fry light (or in oil if you are being naughty) in a couple of cloves of garlic, added 1/2 pt stock and reduced right down (takes 20 mins or so) - yummy mushrooms and garlic on hot buttered toast!
Enjoy Mr BE!

Various from button to 3 inches or so across. Not many of the bigger ones:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -

Well, basically you're looking for the same as you get in the shops. Make sure the gills are pink (if young, darkening to brown as they age), as there are fairly similar poisonous varieties that have white gills. Have a Google for edible mushrooms, and you should find plenty of tips.
However, I feel obliged to say, if in doubt - don't bother. :huh:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Well I am making a Steak & Kidney Pie and I'd love some of those to put in it!Official DFW Nerd No 096 - Proud to have dealt with my debt!0

Ok, I have no garlic, so I'm afraid that's out.
I love garlic, but unfortunately it doesn't like me. I either metabolise it very well, or not well enough, as it makes me stink. _pale_
How about soup? Is there enough there to make soup? I probably have whatever else I need. Is it easy? Could I make it? Is there a recipe anywhere?
Edit: the only other veg I have in the house are some shallots, and some tomatoes (yes, I know they're fruit!)
But I suppose I could nip to the shop if I have to. :rolleyes:If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Right, I have to pop out for a bit, so I'll see if I can get a couple of onions, carrots and celery or something, and we can invent mushroom soup when I get back.If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
