Hello, I love reading this thread, and your progress so far has been fantastic, it's quite amazing how much you have paid off in such a short period of time. Only just over 12 months to go until you are debt free, but having read the rest of your posts, it might be even quicker than that hopefully. Good luck!

Hi seaxwyn, hey hijack away it's nice to hear your stories too! Wow that was a good deal so did you just have to pay for your glass of wine then? Well worth the trip out. I know what you mean about the guilt thing though, I had to make a decision earlier today about buying a bar of chocolate (46p) or paying a library fine (40p) and the chocolate won I'm afraid, I confessed to the librarian the reason I couldn't pay the fine today and I don't think she was too impressed:o

Hey themaccas, just checking in to see how things are :) Please everything is going fine, even without the odd handbag purchase! I'd love a couple of new handbags but as I already have about 20...I think I'd better refrain :D

I badly want a new handbag when we go to NY in March.

I agree with whoever said you need to plan a Century 21 raid, I got a handbag in the branch near Ground Zero for $40 which should have been well over $300. Canal Street is an option, but the majority of bags I saw there were fakes, and mostly poor ones at that - Century 21 has some lovely stuff with massive reductions, you just need to be prepared to root about a bit. There is a TJ Maxx on 6th Avenue somewhere below 12th Street headed for the Village, and they had some great bags when I was there in August, as did the nearby Old Navy branch. Woodbury Commons is a great place to go for designer discounts, but maybe you won't have time to trek that far with what sounds like a really full schedule. Hope this helps, and if you want any more advice on NY shopping I worked about 1.5hrs away from the city for the past three summers, and practiced my Manhattan bargain hunting skills fairly frequently - so ask away!

Best of luck with the debt clearing and enjoy New York - I'm green with envy, it's my favourite place on earth :D

I would love to have our debts cleared before March 2008, sadly that will probably not happen due to our holiday to NY but I can live with that. I'm still feeling really upbeat and positive about our debt clearing and that is helping shift it.

Tumbleweed thatnks for the advice, we have arranged a jam-packed 10 days but we'll definately be having time for bargain hunting. DD wants to go the American Girl shop and get a doll there, she has been busy saving her pocket money for weeks and will continue to do so until we go!

I tried and failed to justify the expense of mine but it is such a treat and I now go every 3-4 months instead of every 2 months. I also work some overtime a few weeks before my appointment to cover the cost so I really feel that I 'earn' it. Money should go on debt though:o

Have you thought about using a mobile hairdressers? A recommended one?

I have one come to my house and she charges at least half compared to the salon I used to go to and she does a better job!! Ironic? And that includes the highlights.

Means I can have mine done every two months and not feel so bad about it.
