Almost missed payment because Santander lost direct debit???

I had a DD set up for my Santander Zero credit card with my Nationwide FlexAccount. Payments were taken in the previous month so it was definitely working. The DD is still showing as active in my Nationwide account but when I logged in to check my CC, it said there was no DD!
Luckily, payment due date was today and I was able to send a faster payment. So close to putting the first bad mark on my credit file.
Anyone have any ideas what happened here? I'm pretty sure I didn't change it. I would never REMOVE my direct debit. Was quite a shock.

You said the magic word "Santander". That probably explains it all.
Are you for real? - Glass Half Empty??

Santander's DD collection has suffered from selective amnesia for over a year. If you call them up and get them to reinstate the mandate, chances are it will disappear again.0

Just logged in again and guess what: "Direct Debit Active: No". I just set one up 2 days ago!!!
I think Santander remove the direct debit if I make a manual payment (which I had to because it was the final day of payment and they didn`t inform me that they had cancelled my DD). A couple of months ago I made a manual payment and the DD still took the remaining amount so they`ve changed the way the account operates without telling me. Santander disappoints yet again. Could send in a complaint but why bother.0 -
I still don't get this problem. (Typical symptom of dealing with Santander.)
I called up CS to get them to add the DD again. They said they've had a few calls with the same problem and it might be a technical error. I'm just going to watch my statement carefully next time because the DD has yet again disappeared from my online banking.0
