This may not help many people, but when I had an airing cupboard with a hot water tank in it (I don't any more), I could put one part of a clothes airer in there with wet stuff on and it would dry really quickly.

When I say 'one part of a clothes airer', I'm talking about the ones which come in 3 sections, and you can stand them up in a Z-shape, OR you can put two sections together in a V and have one section leaning against the wall. So I had the V bit standing above the bath, and the remaining section in the airing cupboard.

This is the kind of thing I'm talking about, although this one has four sections not three ...

Great if you have the room! we have a big partition between the tank and the airing cupboard/babie's wardrobe. Thinking of having a combi installed also, so maybe no more cylinder.

So no easy access to the water tank then? That's a pain ...

I would just like to say that it was a lagged tank, all shrouded in expanded polystyrene, and it still worked for me! Whereas my friend only had a padded jacket and she was forever pulling the padding back a bit to get more heat out onto her damp clothes!

Not really much space where it is housed, plus it's in the nursery, not too keen on hanging damp stuff in there when she's born even if it is in a seperate compartment. Yeah, mine's lagged, bit old, a bit dirty probably. lol.
  • Does anybody have an answer to beanieandme's question about the cost of running a tumble drier? We are probably going to have a similar problem as in Winter, we can't do more than one load of washing a day because of the time it takes to dry when hung up inside. As we already do four or five loads a week (it might sound excessive for two but my husband is a gardener so produces lots of muddy clothes) and want to use washable nappies, I can't see how we can possibly manage to get everything washed and dried once the baby comes.

No one's said anything about cost yet. That's not that excessive. My main problem at the mo is getting towels dry with hardly any space and especially with hardly any heating at the mo. Preggy ladies have to use big towels. lol.
