I live in Scotland and have a pre paid perscription which means I pay £4 a month for multiply medications.

I went to my GP's Tavel Clinic and seen the nurse who wrote me a perscription for Malarone and also got Hep A and dep+tet+pol jabs all included.

The malarone was to cover 3 weeks in south east asia - not to bad considering I was already covered by the pre paid certificate.

My chemist told me that wasnt included as it was a "private prescription"

Strangely enough my pal I was travelling with had to pay for malarone - he was at a different surgery. I spoke to my nurse at the travel clinic surgery who said that each surgery is different and some cover it and some don't - just your luck.

I've been hunting around for Malarone & the cheapest price I could find quoted online is for Superdrug at £2.10 each. Good luck!

Utter rubbish, any GP contracted to the NHS should not be issuing NHS prescriptions for malarone. If you have a dispensing doctor they may charge you for the supply as part of the private "consultation".

  • This may not be useful to everyone, but MALARONE tablets are available over the counter here in France. My local "cheapo" chemist charges 33 euros for 12.

Got my last lot from Morrisons - private prescription. You can try and double up to save money though (ask for a prescrition for a longer period to cover another person).

  • Side effects of malarone can be pretty nasty.
