Excel sheet 'not responding' every time I open it

I have started running an Excel sheet which collects data throughout the day for later analysis.

I have been able to save a copy of the sheet but when I open it my Excel suddenly goes into 'Not Responding' mode.

The sheet displays in part but I can't scroll around and click into cells etc (ie.e edit in any way).

The file is around 15MB large and my CPU usage suddenly jumps to 100% when this file opens.

Since the data is important I need some way to get to it.

My computer has 512mb RAM, P4 2.8 Ghz - its a Dell Dimension 3000. Could this be the problem?

TIA!

Is the hard disk getting thrashed a bit while opening? If so you need more RAM (512MB isn't much for XP anyway).
Try opening it in an Office compatible program such as Open Office to see if it will load in that. You may find the script in the sheet (assuming it has some vbscript) may be buggy.

The VB code is very simple - it just loops many times taking data off a website along the way.

I will try opening it in OpenOffice....but i'm not hopeful :-(

Is it a timer based loop? If so you may find it is executing before the last execute completed, causing a cascade effect.
