made a mistake with new job .....

hi all,
looking for some thoughts / advice from you nice people.
i am 3 weeks into a new job, in the same line of work that i have been doing for the past 9 years, but in a consultancy environment. problem is i hate it, and have made a mistake...feeling very stressed, dont want to go to the office - generally crappy.....
now, this is actually good because i realise that it is the career area i work in that is the problem, not who i do the work for, so that is good and i have learnt that i want to do something different.
i have looked for other jobs, and have found one that sounds perfect - everything that i enjoy and am good at, right salary etc.
am just worried that when i apply for the job they are going to worry why i want to change jobs after so little time at my new one. i am on a 6 months probation period, and i am thinking that this is as much for me as the company, but my confidence is starting to suffer.
anybody had experience in changing jobs soon after starting a new one with advice to offer (or anyone else with advice to offer) ?
thanks
Stu

Why don't you go for the job. What do you have to loose? If you don't get it you still have your old job! People do sometimes change into a job and find out it wasn't the best move. It's only human!!0

Hi Stu
Just wanted to echo that I think you should go for the job.
I think being honest with the prospective company and just tell them that you realised pretty quickly that job wasnt for you. These things happen.
i think I would respect your honesty.

Consultancy work is almost always very stressful - especially if you are working for a consultancy company rather than just doing it as self employed.
As long as the move is into a new arena and not in consultancy again then you should be able to construct a strong arguement of why you are moving after such a short time.... obviously it would be difficult if you were moving to another identical job but with a different company..... I assume you have a reason why you are interested in the new field rather than it being a pure whim that you think finance/ pr/ web design or what ever it happens to be will be "fun" or "stress free" etcAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

thank you for your thoughts.
moving jobs has made me realise what part of my work i enjoy, and that i am good at, and that i am interested in work that will benefit people rather than making more money for a business.
guess it's one of those things that until you do something to move out of your comfort zone you don't know what it is you want to do.....
will be filling in the forms over the weekend, and have also found a couple of other interesting sounding opportunities.
and yes, it is (hopefully) moving to a different career but using my 'transferable skills'. pretty sure it wont be stress free (what is) but will be something i enjoy doing.
thanks again
