Q about refunds & exchanges

Today I took back to Woolies a toaster that I have had 9mths that packed up (Tefal Avanti 4 slice). I bought it for £25 in the sale last yr and although Woolies no longer stock it, its current price (argos, currys etc) is about £40. Woolies gave me a refund no problems at all but it made me think...

If Woolies had got a toaster in stock of the same model/specifications but at the higher price would they have exchanged it with the faulty product or refunded me the price I paid ?

Where do we stand ?

Hi I work part time in Woolies and the policy tends to be that if the model is exactly the same in ALL detail including barcode then they would give you another toaster even if at the point of replacement it costs more. It must be the same product tho down to the last detail including the barcode. You would be issued with a new receipt for the new product BUT the price would be altered to reflect the price you actually paid in the first place therefore in the event of another faulty toaster, say another 7 months down the line, where you wanted a refund, then you would still only get the £25 back. Even if they had the toaster there at the higher price and you wanted a refund you would get a refund no problem but again obviously only the price you paid initially. All this assumes that you have a receipt or proof of purchase of the item.
    Hope this clarifies things

Thanks for your reply. I was just intrested to see what would have happened had they the same toaster in stock but at a higher price.

I managed to buy a new toaster that was £39.99 at PowerHouse but they price matched Currys for me where it was £19.99 but only had the display model. :D
