Great! I'm always finding new ideas. Obviously some could not withstand the onslaught from a popular board like these ones if the idea was just published on the boards, but theres lots that can be, like using your Tesco or Nectar card, or doing surveys and making sure you sign up to the surveys via a cashback site. I was very surprised to realise I've recieved 80.00 from Pinecone since I joined - took ages to find the banner but was clearly worth it. Many people pass over these small ideas as a drop in the ocean, but you can fill a bath tub one drip at a time.
When I was younger I repaid my mortgage this way, so it can work - then I got married and had kids, LOL!
  • Affordmylife - if dd is a teenager and wants more money she could help you with a car boot sale, or do some babysitting for friends/family or she could do a paperround before school. My sister used to work in a shop 4 hours on a saturday when she was 15....I know you have to be 16 to work full time but there are some rules about under 16s working, I think they limit the hours and times you can do because of school and obviously you're not entitled to minimum wage but its better than nothing. Winter's coming can you knit? Possibly buy some cheap wool and make some nice scarves/gloves etc to sell at a crafters market?

thank you all for your lovely replies.

dd has just turned 11 so no job for her yet lol.

yes i can and do knit and am making birthday and christmas presents.

yes i can and do batch cook and am very economical with my shopping.

thank you for all your wonderful suggestions but im still stuck.

as i said before hubby works nights so i cant get out as i have dd to look after. i work all day and am totally whacked in the evenings anyway. very physical day job.

    i will keep thinking tho.

now going to cook omelettes for the three of us with all the random bits left from the week. probably only spend £30 - £40 on food again this week as we have quite a bit in the freezer.

i will totally try hard not to add anything other than the bare minimum to the credit card this month. i dropped it £100 this month and will try to do the same for the coming month.

You could join QuidCo and sign up for your CreditExpert and equifax credit report. Quidco will take the first £5 but then you'll have the £20 from the Credit expert cashback. Not much but £20 quid for nothing is worth the phone call to cancel a day later :j

Also, while i think of it, if you have a mobile phone and the contract is due up then look for new phone deals, what I do is get the cash back on a phone deal (for example i moved to orange last year, got a new handset and cash back on a cheaper tariff.)

I got £100 cash back on the tariff from quidco and sold the mobile on Ebay for £150. Then just popped the sim in my old mobile.

well its saturday. oh joy. so ive worked all week (with on member of team off - so its been a complete nightmare) and now i have the entire house to clean. a mountain of ironing and no food in the house either. not that im fed up or anything.

ive come to the conclusion that there is no way i could take on a second job cos i cant even cope with one job and the house family etc.

oh well the sun in shining, the washing machine is on its second load and ill take the dog out later.

cant decided whether to take all my pills or jump off a cliff today - lol x

Just to clarify, is this the amount of money you have between both you and your DH for the month? I only ask as you are stating you pay separate bills and that he pays for holidays and such, so I was wondering if that is for both of you or just you...and if it is just you, can he contribute more? perhaps from savings?

Does your husband know what you're going thru at the moment? You say you each are responsible for separate bills and that's fine if that works for both of you but presently its not working for you, is it? If you explained to him would he perhaps pay a little more towards something to give you some time to make a proper dent in your credit card?

It can become fun if you let it - go to the library, get a book on foraging, see if you can watch a couple of episodes of cook on the wild side and go out into the country and have a forage dinner - then put the grocery money you would have spent into your pot. If you see it as deprivation, you'll hate eating nettles and dandelions, but if you see it as a novel and educational one off experience of how our ancestors lived it can become a fun activity (once!)
That is exciting! You don't even have to be in debt to want to try it!
