Newbie here! Advice wanted please..

Hi all!

We are currently on a DMP with the CCCS (for 2 years now).

Do you know if we can offer a Full & Final Settlement to each company we owe one at a time eg, this year make an offer to say Credit Card company 1, then next year Credit Card 2 or do we pay the extra money to CCCS and they split the money equally? Would like to see the list coming down as well as the total debt.

Hope someone can help....

Lizzy

    Hi there

I am pretty sure you have to make the same offer to every creditor on a pro rata of what you owe them, to make sure it's all fair and square.

I am sure someone more knowledgeable (Wonder Girl? :)) will be along to offer a more informed opinion tomorrow.

    Good luck with your DMP!

    Hi,
I also have had a DMP with CCCS for the last two years. When I started I had four creditors, one was a small amount (only £40+) and I wanted to pay it off straight away but CCCS would not let me do that. They said the other three creditors would object. So you will probably get the same reply from them.
I got very annoyed with them too, as they managed to screw up on the payments to that particular creditor and landed me with several late fee's of £20 each which ended up bumping the amount owed to £80+. I phoned them several times, wrote letters of complaint and the matter was finally sorted and the creditor dropped the late fees, (I think!) I certainly didn't have to pay them anyway.
Incidentally, CCCS are extrememly busy right now, so if you have any urgent questions or information for them, don't waste your time writing, phone them, phone calls are taking priority now. If you do send them any mail, always send it recorded delivery.

This sort of links to my thread about having spare money because of a bonus from work. I will be saving up my bonus until I have enough to pay off my smallest bill, and will then pay by cash over the counter at a bank. If it's queried, I'll say that my mum found my bills, and decided to pay it for me. As far as I'm aware they can't disprove that and it will therefore not be my fault that the money wasn't pro-rata'd.

Does anyone agree (or disagree) with this?

    Hi milliejon,
I agree, this is what I want to do. I went to CCCs for help but they could not give me much help as I did not have enough disposable income(after doing their budget) but I was told to offer token payment of £1. I have done this but sometime DH get extra money from overtime etc so we thought that we would save this and then pay off one bill and then onto the next.

It makes sense to me because then at least we're lessening the number of debts we have, and can ultimately increase the payments to the larger debts. Best of luck to you Jumps.
