What's the best hair mascara to cover grey roots between colouring?

My hair is a medium brown colour, the grey roots are showing after about 3-4 weeks, wondering if anyone can recommend a good hair mascara to touch up between colouring. Thanks:)

Im waiting to see any answers here too.

Sometimes I wish I'd never started colouring mine, just for that reason.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • I know,I'm 38 and feel I'm too young to go grey!!! I wish I was blonde, the greys don't seem to show as much!:)

I'm 60, I havent seen my natural colour for 20 years or so.

I think I would get a bit of a shock if it suddenly lost all the

Superdrug Colour overnight, I think it would be a permanent hat for me. :rotfl:

Doestn look as were going to get any solutions does it?

Ok, this is what I do and it's not hair mascara. I go to Home Bargains, buy some mega cheap hair dye (mostly for 99p permanent hair colour), mix it up and go over my roots. Keeps it going for a bit longer until I buy decent hair dye and do all my hair every few months. I couldn't be faffed with hair mascara, would it wash out?

Oh, and I am 35 and been having those horrid little white hairs come up for about five years now, drive me mad!!!
  • this isnt a hair mascara but i bought a wash in wash out from superdrug called colour effects (3 applications in it if not more) for 99p, im 34 and have a lot of grey hair and the permanent dyes only last a week on me and my hair is very fine so i dont want to damage it anymore so im using this in between hair dyes, also ive got my mum using it to shes very impressed with it as it lasts over a week on her,u just apply it as and when and can build up a stronger colour with it, its turned my grey hair a lighter brown colour so i would pick a slightly darker shade than normal ( it does say on the packaging not for grey hair) i would definitely recommend it tho. :)
always send a smile as it costs nothing..

  • I'm only 28 and I have the same problem :( my hair is so dark that the horrible grey/white hairs stick out so badly. Permanent hair dye lasts a week- 10days before they start to show!

My hairdresser has told me about a hair mascara but I've not tried it yet as the shop is a bit out of my way to get it! If I do get it I'll update the thread.

try giovanni's range of colorflage - shampoos and conditioners that use natural ingredients to colour grey and make natural and dyed colour last. i usually get mine from iherb.com, and usually spend about $25 without being stopped by customs....you can also use code AYA071 for a $5 discount.

    Me too:o:o!.

The roots only really show at my parting, but my hair is dark and I am now sadly VERY grey naturally. There's nothing worse than that "very wide parting" effect of grey roots on dark hair!

I keep old mascaras that are running out and whisk the brush along the roots at the parting. It's not a perfect solution and if you use a new mascara it's too wet I find and makes the hair too coated and claggy (well it does with my mascara anyway), maybe if you used a cheap non-waterproof, non-lash-building one it would be OK.

My roots are showing after 2 and a half weeks, so I do this for everyday purposes to try to drag having the colour done for a bit longer if possible. I don't wear my hair flat and sleek either, which would make the mascara thing harder to get away with!

For some reason it has embarrassed me to admit this, but seeing as how I'm not the only one.....!!

ETA I notice Avon had this http://www.epinions.com/review/Avon_ADVANCE_TECHNIQUES_Grey_Root_Touch_up/content_509821292164

which is reasonably priced and has some OK reviews. has anyone used it? It seems to be unavailable in the current campaign according to the Avon website. Any Avon reps reading can advise please?

Not tried it but I hear this is good (see link below).

I have the same problem - I have very fine grey hairs on my hairline - that, coupled with a natural frizz makes me look a lot older than my 35 years!

Be good to hear if any MSE has tried this and what they thought...:)
