are HSBC and Alliance and Leicester the same group?

I'm a little confused, I transfer money to pay the interest and usually at least the same amount off my overdrafts each month. This week when i did it, it went straight into the account, like within minutes. Normally it takes a few days.

I've just done some research on the web and i'm confused as to if santander have now over taken HSBC??? I'm so worried that if they have they could take the money out of A&L account to pay stuff, even though we aren't missing any payments and over pay on all 3 overdrafts and CC??

We are straight now, still in debt obviously but we never go into OD, and everything is paid cash / debit card etc. I Don't want them to mess it up for us.

Many thanks

No, HSBC are not owned by Santander.

When you have transferred the money it will have gone as a "faster payment" which works between certain banks and means the money goes in within 2 hours (but usually seconds).

There is a detailed explanation here :

  • Thanks for that cleared it up a little :)
