HELP PLEASE!!..can i get a grant to replace steel sash windows?

hello everyone,i would like to replace my old steel-sash single glazed windows with new doubled glazed units.does anybody know if there are any local authority grants available to help with the cost? i know the mainland has a window scrappage scheme but i cant seem to find anything similar here in ballymena...maybe im looking in the wrong place! any ideas?? thanks in advance.nik :T

I don't think there are places here that give grants for double glazing. You could try the Energy Saving Trust:
http://www.energysavingtrust.org.uk/Northern-Ireland-advice-centre
and they should be able to let you know what grants are available.

Isn't the 'window scrappage scheme' just a marketing ploy by DG companies? Just using a common word and their usual discounts available to drum up more business.

To be totally honest... it is a real shame when you see this. We live in a victorian property and have made big efforts to keep or repair the original windows. If you live in a period property I think one should make great efforts to find alternatives. Putting plastic framed, modern, double glazed windows into an old house just ruins the look.

i agree with the above post totally.. but its not a period property so i need ways to cut down on heat loss,save money,make property more secure etc etc.
