ISIS Moving goalposts

If you are thinking of applying to ISIS for free solar panels, this might just save you some wasted effort.

We applied some time ago and have just had the following reply:
"Thank you for applying for ISIS solar’s free solar power offer. Unfortunately your property is not suitable for our system.
Currently we are looking for one or two story properties"
Our house is two storey
"with near due south facing pitched roofs"
Ours faces exactly due south and has no shelter whatsoever and is pitched
"of 30m² or larger."
ISIS originally quoted a minimum of 24 square meters! Not sure how big our is...it's definitely over 24 SQM and we put this on the application. Most likely it's over 30sq meters but it's a bit difficult to get up and measure exactly!
So...we met the original requirements but were rejected nonetheless!
Maybe one of the mods can update the page on MSE to refelect this change as it could save people some wasted time?
I suspect ISIS have been inundated with applications and are "cherry picking" houses with the very largest of roofs and an easy install (Ours has a conservatory which'd mean longer ladders). This is understandable from a business point of view but I'd hope they'd be a bit more explicit about the type of houses they are looking for.

  • Yes they definately do move goal posts. first they gave me much the same as your op. I proved to them all their requirements. they then stated that the Feed in Tarriff scheme does not apply in Scotland wish is nonsense. I told them this also, the said they were mistaken, then said they reason they cannot install in Scotland is because you need planning permission which again is nonsense.
So yes they clearly do move goalposts, and give out misleading information and quotes.
