And claim for the rent instead ? yes OK'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. A single market without barriers visible or invisible giving you direct and unhindered access to the purchasing power of over 300 million of the worlds wealthiest and most prosperous people' Margaret Thatcher0 -
It's bad enough that savers are being shafted in order to keep the over extended afloat, for the taxpayer to be putting their hand in the their pocket as well is a disgrace.
And to think that a few on here believe that house prices are at affordable level, the two issues I've mentioned above just show ignorant with vested interest they are.
At times, my income's been equivalent to about £10k/year, theoretically qualifying for WTC, but being disallowed because of their guesstimate of how much interest I'd be getting, which is some crazy high figure they work off.
My fund is my house money. There's no more to go into it. There'll be no mortgage for me in the future. What's there's there, so I can't dip into it. So I just cut back and back and back, cutting my cloth to my current (this month's) income all the time.0 -

This has lead to me being over-cautious with all other expenditure to the point where I daren't/hate spending a penny that's unnecessary.

I feel for you PN, there is no justice when decent, prudent and conscientious people like yourself have been rolled over for the sake of the f eckless, the ignorant and the greedy.
I just hope justice is served for you one day.Have owned outright since Sept 2009, however I'm of the firm belief that high prices are a cancer on society, they have sucked money out of the economy, handing it to banks who've squandered it.0 -
Would it be fair to give claimants their mortgage interest upto their LHA limit?
(Dunno really, just thinking aloud of a way to be fair to those with mortgages given that those renting get supported.)I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. If the amount they'd get in rent is less than their mortgage interest costs, then yes, that would seem a possible compromise?
Not thought it through either.0 -
Where I am LHA 2 bed £747 per month, 2 bed house £150,000 interest at 3.63%, £454 per month what would rather your tax paid for?0

God I really hope some of you people on here never fall on hard times. Not that it'll happen though because you all have £100k in savings and could never be that stupid.0

I did what I thought was "the right thing". I didn't like the house either, but that's all part of the decision making. But, I decided to get out as I couldn't afford it - because at the time they said interest rates were going to go up and up ......0 -

I've made the most that I could from situations I found myself in, but I didn't come from any group of people that thought they'd be supported and paid for, forever.0 -
