Hi all
I found a recipe on here for the best mince pie pastry ever and wanted to try it but could only find cookeen in my MrT... so i bought it...only to find trex in mrMs today... so i bought that too
Are these basically the same thing or is one better than the other?
Thanks
(ps good thing my kids are addicted to mince pies or I would be left with a lot of leftover trex/cookeen or pastry :rotfl:)

AFAIK. they're both modified vegetable oil. I prefer lard:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
I use prefer 'old fashioned' lard too.
This is an older thread, but it may help:
Trans fats and Trex ?
These threads discuss both Trex and Cookeen:
Trex
Can I use cookeen in cakes?

Hello. :hello:
I know the forum is old now but it's still good for a reference.
Trex does state on the packaging that it doesn't have hydrogenated vegetable oils, etc etc.
The packet has a table on the side of the pack I have and regarding fats it says:
per 100g -
100g fat
34g of which are saturates
48g of which are monounsaturated
18g of which are polyunsaturates.
I don't know if they have changed their recipe since this thread has been created but I am glad to know there is no 5% enigma here.
I hope that helped anyone who wanted to know.0
