Ok im probabily going to win daft post of the week award but today my hairdresser reccomened that I buy a tube of hair serum
Ive been into 3 of my local chemists who all dont stock it at all.
The idea being that as my hair is very oily I just use serum on the ends instead of conditioner.
So how can anyone tell me how much I need to use in one application as im only treating the ends and where can I buy some from?
Also any reccomendations would be great.

Hot Oil is a good product. It comes in little tubes. Quite intensive. Not sure if it a serum though.0

Boot and Superdrug sell several brands of hair serum. It all depends on hair type. Start with one pump of the stuff, and then see if it's enough. I have thick dry waist length hair, and when I use serum, the amount will vary by whether I've been treating it nicely recently with oil treatments, or neglecting it.0

For something cheap and cheerful you coudl start with this, £1.99 from Boots.

2 pumps should do the ends of your hair - it's thinner than some serums, and the amount from each pump is quite small.
I now use this, which is great value for money, and just lovely - amazing smell, but more expensive at £5.99.

One pump should do the ends - more comes out, but it's also thicker.
I use about 3 pumps of this for almost all my hair apart from the scalp (and I have long hair).0 -
Hi, your post is interesting to me as I have oily hair also that is fine but my hair needs smoothing somehow. I do use conditioner but my hair is always lank. Has your hairdresser advised you to use serum instead of conditioner? Just out of interest what shampoo do you use? I use Simple shampoo. In the past I have tried John Freida Frizz Ease serum for fine hair and it was good, its more expensive than the Boots one but does last ages.0

i like the charles wothington serum, its quite expensive compared to some of the others but you only need a tiny amount otherwise hair looks greasy, if you get the right amount it gives a really good shine to the hair0

city- my hair looks really awful and greacy after about 6 hours after I wash it. I went for a cut at 2 this afternoon and washed it last night and she commented on how bad it is. I use herbal essances, vosene for when its really bad and head and shoulders as well
All of my hair issues began after I had a misscarriage last year so I wonder as did my hairdresser if its hormonal as its never been this bad
The plan is to use no conditioner and allow my hair to 'breath' and decide on how much natural oils it want to put into itself. The serum is just to look after my ends.
Im happy to give it a go as its really quite embarrassing for me.Mad Mum to 3 wonderful children, 2 foster kittens and 2 big fat cats that never made it to a new home!

I like the JF also, we have a ex-catalog shop which has it in for a quid along with some other JF range I stocked up!
Just don't over-do it which I did at first or you end up with greasier hair (I used the same amount as I would use conditioner) bad, bad hair day!0 -
This is a very old product been going for years. Does anyone use it?

It used to come out of the tube like toothpaste and you just need a tiny amount, rubbed in your hands and applied to dry hair, smoothed through the length or just on the ends.
It's very economical, tube lasts for ages.0 -

Hi, though my hair is greasy its also coloured. I've used H&S and Vosene but its stripped the colour a bit. I am also menopausal so I think this is affecting my hair as it doesn't seem as in good condition as it was even a year ago. I think I may try the serum at the ends again and see what happens. My hair is naturally straight but just lately has gone very kinky, even the hairs I lose seem to have a curl to them.0 -
Another one for John Freida here. Lasts ages and only use a teeny tiny amount. I have straight hair down to my bum and I only use about a 20p piece squeeze on each side of my hair and it does the trick. Look out for it on offer, some supermarkets generally have it on special, as do Boots and Superdrug. It is expensive but it is the best and it does last forever0
