Hypno's diaries are the Lord of the Rings of debtbusting :rotfl:

Yeah, except Hypno would never be daft enough to throw a gold ring into a volcano...Cash4Gold etc. could be used to debtbust instead! :rotfl:

Overall, it sounds like a good idea, but I think the contributing diarists would like to see a proof copy of the book (or at least the parts pertaining to their extracts) to read before being printed so as to ensure that their annonymity is preserved. Other issues could be sideskirted fairly easily.

P.S. Nice to see you safeguarding your posters' privacy, Martin. :T

Wow you are an inspiring bunch. So it got me thinking - maybe I should bring out a 'Debt Free Diaries' book of the stories here to help others who don't use the site be inspired and save.

And I wanted to canvas your opinion.

    Here's a few issues

    1. Do you like the idea? I personally think this is a brilliant idea, a lot of people are in debt and like a look of us have may of done - bury the head in the sand, I took inspoirational from reading other threads and decided to start my own diary and I feel it has helped, emotionally, mentally, and somewhere I can air my ups, downs, thoughts and be free to talk - without feeling a failure for getting into the mess I did.

    2. I don't want any money for this (though of course publishers and agents will do, as will the write who puts in together (I dont have enough time - I'd just read it check Im happy and write the intro).
Thats absolutely lovely of you, and the intro by you, would bring the personal touch to the book.

    3. The money generated could be either given to charity (debt charities primarily - which is my favoured option) or to the authors of the diaries - yet that does make it difficult. I was thinking perhaps the bulk could go to charity, but a small payment £100-£200 ishto anyones diary who was used as a main stay (as opposed to a snippet)
Definately agree to the debt charities, as they do a lot of good work for free, although to date I have managed without the help. There may be a day where I would need it. I think £100 would be more than generous.

    4. Copyright - by law having written things on here, technically I have the right to publish it. Yet of course I would want permission of the posters too - so those who write diaries is this something you'd be happy with (certain identifying details could be changed on request)
I think that the fact that you would ask for permission shows the respect you have for the people, we all use "pen names" so without sounding daft I could be posting on a thread of someone who lives a mile away, or 1,000 miles, but I guess some details could be identified.

    5. Do we identify the posters with pics and biogs - not sure people would want this - but its an interesting option - CHANGED MY MIND ABOUT THIS BIT IGNORE IT. ML
I know you have put ignore it, I personally wouldn't like my pic used, as I like some other posters have used family / pets etc. But biogs to me (maybe a bit of a change of location eg instead of Birmingham - used Midlands, like job title, theres lots of variations (think car insurance) that would also add the personal element to the diary, give a bit of background to the person without identifying them, but may help "readers" understand some background history of the person.

Of course no publisher may want the book - but I think they might.

    What dya reckon?

NOTE I WILL TAKE ANY THANKS AS A GENERAL INDICATION THAT YOU SUPPORT THE OVERALL IDEA

Been cheeky and followed one of the other posters view - commenting at each bit - otherwise I've got a memory like a sieve.

With the credit crunch and the economy and the country as a whole - the changes have affected nearly everyone in different ways, not necessary the cause of the debt, but is a contributing factor, ie reduction mortgages offer, credit cards upping the interest (I know there was a get out clause), but with people still needing to use them there held to ransom.

I feel that although we all try and support other posters, that if there was a mixture of diaries - and someone brought the book and identified with even just one diary and took action that would be one extra person helped. It would be a idea I would back 100%, I can not say thank you enough to people on this site, from Martin, the MSE staff, the board guides, to other debt free wanabees, those that have achieved it, and help and support from other posters, to me some of the fellow posters I think of friends that I haven't had chance to meet yet in life, I have also met one poster and her family, and have a friend that I wouldn't of never met.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

If featuring my diary in any way shape or form, please can you hold off publishing the book until Easter, so that you can include my post on the Roll of Honour :D

Yes, but what would you call a Hypno film?
    Diet, Download, Shred?
    Skip, Shred, Save?
    Declutter, Download, Scratch?

But seriously, folks... I like the idea of a book but like the idea of a freebie for debt counsellors. And I do wonder whether, if some of the personal details are taken out, the book might not be quite as addictive as the diaries are.
    And :T:beer::T:beer: to all diarists.
