I have a mortgage of £31,000 with 20yrs left to pay my home is worth £115,000. I am looking to remortgage an extra £10,000-£15,000 as my bathroom and kitchen are in a state of disrepair,
The problem is I'm on benefits as I am a full time carer for my son, I have 4 children.
I also don't think I have the best credit score as my ex partner left a few debts behind not much but I think there maybe a couple of defaults on record which at the time I refused to pay as it was him that had these in my name.
I haven't yet applied for the remortgage just wondered if anyone knows if they think I will be able to get one? Also any banks which are more likely to offer this remortgage?.
I have checked my finances and can afford the repayments, there is no other way I can get the work done as it would take me to long to save and it needs doing ASAP, Also any banks which are more likely to offer this remortgage?
I'm currently with TSB but have been told its unlikely they will offer me the remortgage.
any good advice would be appreciated.

You cannot get a mortgage whilst on benefits only. You would need an income from employment/self employment, with some benefits being allowed in addition.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Carers' allowance is a benefit, not employment.
Have you spoke to Care and Repair about the possibility of receiving a grant? Bit of a long shot when it is for a bathroom and kitchen rather than aids or adaptations, but they'd maybe be able to give some sort of advice, depending on your son's needs.0 -

As a full time carer you may want to explore the possibility of asking the council or Job Centre if there any grants/awards available for somebody in your position. Also try speaking to other charitable organisations (sorry can't think of any off the top of my head but try Yellow Pages) to see if they can help.If you don't have 'owt important to say then don't say 'owt ...0
