Why should taxpayers subsidize rent payers to private tenants then, You private rent or buy for the same reasons for most parts, Ie to put a roof over your head in a area you want to live. only difference is I'm willing to pay back any subsidies I get, Do all the others that get subsidized?

Sure one day I might make a profit on my house but I have to maintain it myself, renters on the other hand that get housing benefit don't and the landlord is getting his mortgage if buy to let paid on the house they are renting.

As I believe someone else pointed out, you took out a mortgage knowing there was a risk involved that this kind of thing could happen. Presumably you also wanted something to leave to the kids, and also have an asset (which is why most people take out a mortgage). People who are renting are doing more so because they are keeping a roof over their heads. People don't HAVE to buy houses, but people that rent often don't have a choice.

I am not saying that it is right you will be paid less than a renter, but I think the above is something to take into account.
I have been in the insurance industry for the past 6 1/2 years (protection products)

    HELP!
I was told yesterday by dss that they would only be paying £3.85p per week towards my mortgage interest payment, They used to pay £108 per week, then it dropped so I had to pay £79 per month towards my interest payment of £289 per month (they paid £210) now this she said "it was because of the interest rate and it applied to everyone with a mortgage as the government will no longer pay the full interest, but if we lose our house (which we will) then we go into rented then they will pay the full rent"!!!!!!!!!
Please someone tell me this is wrong, my wife is in tears.
Nothing has changed with my income, no extra money nothing!

How much is your total mortgage? Does that amount include any additional borrowing that the DWP have disallowed? What household income do you have?

The total interest only is £289 they used to pay it all then in april they paid less so we had to pay the extra then this letter came on saturday so my wife phoned them and they told her it came in on 1st october where they no longer pay any interest on ANY mortgage? There is no extra borowing on the mortgage.
Our money has not changed it is the new rules that came in on the 1st they told her it is not our income just the new rules!
The only reason we are on income support is my wife has fibromyalgia and became so bad about 18 months ago that she had to go on sick only they said for 3 months in 2005 she did not pay enough national insurance, I am disabled so they take my money into account so she go 10p per week but they helped with the morgage, until now!

They should pay the interest on the outstanding mortgage minus any extra you remortgaged for at the now 3 odd % so if your interest rate is that or less then they should still be helping you to the same amount they where.

I'm fixed at 5.9% so I have to make up the difference myself on mine now the rates dropped from 6 odd % and trying to find a way to raise the extra amount now needed.

If ether of you can get to or call your local citizens advice bureau then they would best be able to advise you and work out what you should be entitled to so you can appeal against what your being paid now if there's a difference in amounts.

What is your income made up of? Is the £140,000 the amount you originally borrowed, and was it solely to buy the house? Do you have over £6,000 in savings?

£140,000 the amount we originally borrowed, there is no extra and it was solely to buy the house. we pay 3.75% I think and unfortunataly we have no savings.
Income is from benefits and this has not changed since the tiny incresase in April.
What I do not understand is they told us that it was everyone with a mortgage that this applied to and no one will get anything unless they rent!

The rate has been (nearly) halved for all claimants, but the scheme has not ended altogether. How is your benefit made up? Some benefits give extra premiums etc.
